Obituary for Derek Daniel Savage

HALLOWELL-- Derek D. Savage, 41, passed away at his home in Hallowell on September 1st, 2022, with his wife and mom by his side after an almost 2 year battle with cancer.

Derek was born on April 16th, 1981, in Augusta, Maine. He was the son of Stephen Savage and Valerie Oswald. Derek was a resident of Hallowell for many years, calling this his home town where friends and musicians gathered. Derek grew up in the Windsor area and graduated from Erskine Academy In 1999. Derek went on to join the Army and studied public affairs journalism at the Defense Information School.

Derek will always be remembered for his incredible musical talent with many instruments, beautiful vocals and amazing song writing abilities. Derek was a part of several musical collaborations, bands, and jams. Some of his most proudest accomplishments were the albums he recorded with friends in the Cavern Recording music studio in Waterville.

Derek accomplished so much in his short 41 years of life. From growing up playing sports, to teaching himself how to play music, writing beautiful songs, traveling, becoming a business owner and becoming a positive role model and parental figure to his step son, Casey.
Derek and Suzy met in 2019 and it was the start of a new life for both of them. An unstoppable team that went on to start, own and operate multiple businesses. Derek, his best friend, Shawn and other close friends built three beautiful bars and remodeled 3 spaces for nutrition clubs to operate. Derek was a loved face at both Northeast Nutrition & Energy and Savage Nutrition, known for making amazing drinks, his huge smile and always interesting conversations with customers. It was a blessing that Derek was able to work alongside his sister, Alyssa and wife, Suzy for the past few years.

Dereks smile was contagious and his conversations intriguing. Derek was an avid movie and music buff and could probably win any trivia contest out there. He was told he had a mind like Cliff Clayven from Cheers with all the random knowledge he always seemed to know and share.

Derek loved to travel and was able to see many places over the past 3 years with his wife Suzy and cousins Jesse and Brittany. Derek enjoyed all of the adventures, including trips to Cabo, Cancun, Florida, the White Mountains, New York City, Las Vegas and Yosemite National Park to name a few. Derek was always up for adventure. He enjoyed physical challenges such as the hikes in Yosemite. Derek loved working out at home, building muscle and sharing his progress with others. He was passionate about helping like minded people work towards their physical/health goals. Derek enjoyed being outdoors, bicycling, hiking, white water rafting, camping, kayaking, the list goes on. There is so much that could be said about Derek and the beautiful and fulfilling life he lived. He will be missed by so many, he made an impact on everyone he met and will forever be remembered. Dereks last wishes were for everyone to Enjoy Life! He said there is not as much time as you think.

Derek is survived by his wife, Suzy Brennan; his step son, Casey Jones; his father and stepmother, Stephen and Stella Savage of Windsor; his mother and stepfather, Valerie and Garrett Oswald of New Portland; his brother, Travis Collins of Unity; his sister Alyssa Savage of Windsor, his brother, Alex Savage of Windsor; his grandmother, Calla Gates of Skowhegan; his niece, Calla Collins of Unity, his nephew, Sawyer Collins of Unity, his mother-in-law Sheryl Howe of Winthrop.
