Obituary for Gloria D. Carey
HALLOWELL, MAINE
Gloria Desjardin Carey, born April 17, 1927 in Connor, ME, the second youngest of 11 siblings. She was the daughter of Edmund Desjardin and Anna Castonguay.
Gloria resided in West Gardiner for most of her adult life and enjoyed retirement wintering in Florida. She passed away on August 16, 2022 in Hallowell, ME at 95.
Gloria enjoyed over 50 years of marriage to the late John C. Carey, Jr. who passed away in July 1999. Together, they raised 5 children, James P. Carey of Hallowell and Dunedin, FL, Gail Carey Gullotti, Dummerston, VT, Ramona Carey Venskus Augusta and Manchester and Angela G. Carey in Farmingdale. She also has 10 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and a great great grandson.
She was predeceased by husband John and son John C. Carey, III.
Gloria spent her life taking care of her husband and children, She worked at both Hallowell Shoe and Gardiner Shoe Company as well as the Maine Dept. of Human Services Homemaker Program.
Gloria was a talented musician. She played guitar and piano and had an excellent singing voice. She was in a band as a girl and continued playing music until just a few years ago.
Viewing will be held at Plummer Funeral Home,16 Pleasant St, Augusta, ME 04330 on Thursday, August 18, from 6-8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 School Street, Gardiner, Maine at 11 AM Friday, August 19. Burial will follow at the Hallowell Cemetery, 27 Water St, Hallowell, ME 04347, next to her husband John.
